About the Royal Marriage Certificate
The borders of this hand-made parchment have been taken from an extremely old and very rare illuminated manuscript which dates back to the 14th century. If you look closely you will see that each is made up of 18 interwoven hearts – that was all the reason needed to include them in this creation. The Coat of Arms dates back to around 1550 and belonged to a European King. I used it because of the strength of the lions, representing the strength of the marriage, with four gold hearts in the centre to tie the whole document together. The gold leaf is applied by hand over a terra-cotta ground of raised gesso, this being the traditional method since medieval times.
