Ketubah – Jewish Marriage Certificate
The Ketubah
The border on this hand-aged certificate is an accurate fascimile of a border that framed an illuminated Hebrew manuscript of the words of the Prophet Amos (700 BC). The Hebrew quote (with English Translation) affirms the power of of mingling lights, and was written by Rabbi Israel Ba-al Shem Tov, the founder of the 18th Century movement known as Hasidism. The text if the certificate is designed to reflect the nature of a successful marriage partnership. It incorporates the realities, hopes, dreams and ambitions of a contemporary couple and their tradition. The woodcut chuppah scene (bridal canopy) is Dutch in origin and dates to around 1723 AD.
If you look at antique pages, you will see that the aging effects of time and atmosphere add much to the beauty of the piece, as does the irregularity and texture of the parchment, vellum or paper itself, unlike other artwork on the market, our unique hand-ages process creates both a visually appealing effect of the passage of time, and a very realistic feel. This textured irregularity ensures that no two hand-aged Ketubahs are alike – each is a unique document.
